How To Be a Bad Husband
Life isn’t about trying to be the best Christian we can be, it’s about walking with Jesus for God’s glory.
My goal as a husband is not to try and be the best husband I can be. I don’t think to myself, “Okay Drew, what would the perfect husband do at this point? – He would buy flowers for his wife and take her on a date.” Not at all. That would be bad husbanding.
No, my focus is on my wife. What would bless her today? That’s what I want to do. What’s she doing today? I want to be where she is and do what she’s doing. And out of that I naturally become the best husband I can be - by focusing on my wife and not on myself.
Likewise, if I truly want to be the best Christian I can be, then I don’t focus on that above all things, I focus on Jesus – what he wants, what he’s doing, and then I do it with him. In this way I remain in the vine and produce the fruit he intends for me to produce.
The goal of life, then, is to fulfill the Father’s purposes by participating in Jesus by the power of the Spirit. Remember, we don’t want to just follow a set of principles; we want to be taken right into the very identity and purposes of God. Doesn't that sound much more dynamic and exciting?
