You’re God’s Idea, So Like Yourself

I recently read the following and thought it was worth posting at the end of our current theme: You’re God’s Idea.

Perhaps no composer has captured the musical heart and soul of America as did Irving Berlin. In addition to familiar favorites such as "God Bless America" and "Easter Parade," he wrote, "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas," which still ranks as the all-time best-selling musical score. In an interview for the San Diego Union, Don Freemand asked Berlin, "Is there any question you've never been asked that you would like someone to ask you?" "Well, yes, there is one," he replied. "'What do you think of the many songs you've written that didn't become hits?' My reply would be that I still think they are wonderful."

God, too, has an unshakable delight in what – and whom – he has made. He thinks each of his children is wonderful, and whether they're a "hit" in the eyes of others or not, he will always think they're wonderful. (Jim Adams from Buenos Aires, Argentina, quoted in Leadership, Summer 1993, p. 60.)

Over the last few weeks, I’ve tried to show you how God values you simply because you’re his idea. We have yet to explore the many other reasons you’re so valuable such as – because God chose you, because God loves you, because God died for you, because you’re God’s child, because you’re indispensable and many more.

Can I suggest that you have every heavenly reason to be encouraged. God likes you. And can I suggest that you have no heavenly reason to not like yourself. Of course, you’re imperfect, but so are my children, and I still love them. If God likes you, then it’s okay to like yourself. If fact, I think it breaks his heart if you don’t.
