Perspective at the End of a Gun
He pulled into my driveway, windows rolled down, tired from a long day. It was too dark to take in his surroundings, and the busted streetlight didn’t help. He never saw it coming.
Within seconds a gun was at his temple. He panicked. “Take it! Take the car!”
It happened so fast he found it hard to describe. Four guys stole his car, but by God’s grace he survived.
This happened at my home. Not in some other country, but where my children play.
I found him crying with shock when I came to him. I said sorry about the car, and he quickly replied, “I don’t care about the car. I’m just thankful to be alive. This sure puts things in perspective.”
Tragedy has an acute way of offering us renewed perspective on life. But let’s not wait for a gun to our head.
Life is short, but it’s packed with purpose. Do you know what your purpose is? Hopefully, if you’ve read my blog over the last few weeks, you’re beginning to see your purpose in light of God’s overall purpose on the earth. There’s no time to waste. Get busy with what he’s busying doing through his Spirit, the church and his ever-increasing kingdom.
Jesus said, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working” (John 5:17).
