Famous Last Words

Famous last words:

·     “Are you sure the power is off?”

·     “He’s probably just hibernating.”

·     “Hey, watch this!”

·     “I’ve seen this done on TV.”

·     “I do.” (Just kidding)

A person’s last words tell it all. Consider a few of Jesus’ last words to his followers.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19).

Jesus' disciples knew very well what Jesus meant when he said those words, make disciples. He didn't have to explain it. They knew he wanted them to do what he had just spent the previous three years doing. To walk with and empower others to follow God, destroy the works of the enemy, and advance God's kingdom, not their own. And teach them to do the same with others. That's what he did when he walked this earth and that's what he asked his disciples to do when he left.

Has his purpose for his followers changed? What’s your role in that? Are you actively a part of what he is doing in your community? What should you do about it?
