Take some time out to ask God this question, “If I were to remove many of the comforts of my life for a season: my entertainment, my friends, family, job, distractions, business and hurry, what would be left? How would I feel? Uneasy? Insecure? Utterly lonely? Unimportant?”
Stop!
If you haven’t thought about the question above. Don’t read on just yet. Take a minute. Read the question again. And really consider: what or who determines your identity.
“Then Joseph said to his brothers, ‘Come close to me.’ When they had done so, he said, ‘I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you’”(Genesis 45:4-5).
Joseph had lost everything – except the right perspective. How? His identity was secure in God. If you’re prone to insecurities, or constant highs – then lows, then perhaps you’re propped up by the superficialities of life or unhelpful dependency on other things besides God. He made you. He knows you. He loves. And he’s with you right now. Turn to him.
